stratum one · before it had a name

Half a century before the scene could name itself, it had a nickname and a set of licensing laws to work around. The record starts here, in the halls and the back rooms, filed from the beginning so nothing at the bottom of the core gets lost.

The city called it Pig City. The kids called it a start.

stratum two · the long quiet

Thirty years of the dial turning and the scene going under the radar and back again. The record tracks what the mainstream stopped hearing, and the kids who kept the frequency alive anyway.

When the radio went quiet, the practice rooms did not.

stratum three · the cost of the revival

A decade of the scene rebuilding and paying for it. The record honours what happened, flags what conflicts, and keeps the casualties in the ledger rather than smoothing them out of the story.

Every revival keeps a list of who did not make it.

stratum four · the scene under the scene

Three years the record was written from inside as it happened: the subscene of skateparks, all-ages nights and the bands that ran them. This is where the ink is still wet and the sources are people you can call.

The newest layer, and the one still forming. The record closes on the open question every scene lives inside: what comes after the people who built it, and who is holding the door now.
